{EESP} Emergency Emotional Support Plan
The purpose of your EESP is to arm you with strategies to use when you need in-the-moment support. These are the tools you’ll look to when you get into a fight with your best friend, learn about a school shooting, or find out you might get laid off. Don’t worry, creating your EESP is quite simple—just read, have a pen in hand, and be honest with yourself. Nobody’s watching. (OK, maybe somebody’s watching, but they’re not gonna care. In fact, they’ll appreciate that you have a plan in place for when the shit hits the fan.)
Now that you know your primary (and probably secondary) anxiety style, understand the difference between true and surface self-care, and know your SuperSense, you have the foundation to create a powerful EESP. I’ve separated the strategies into three categories: 1-minute strategies, 10-minute strategies, and 30-minute strategies. Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to scan through these lists and circle two or three strategies in each of the categories. This, my friend, will serve as your personalized EESP.
