Apologies Are Priceless

The Benefit:

You’re not perfect. I’m not perfect. (Even though we may act as if we expect ourselves to be perfect!) Apologizing genuinely and quickly will improve your relationships, minimize your guilt, and deflate the general level of tension in your home.

The How:

If something you said or did is bothering YOU, chances are that it’s also bothering someone you love. Take a breath and apologize honestly and directly to those you love. This is also a fantastic opportunity to model kind communication to your children. If you can do it in the moment, even better! If not, don’t beat yourself up. “Better late than never!” Take a moment before bedtime to acknowledge your actions and words, then reach out to those you love and let them know how you feel. You may even find that you’ll start to hear more apologies from those you love in the future.
